"The written word can be powerful and beautiful, but films transport us to another place in a way that even the most evocative words never can. If we lose our films, we lose that other place forever."
In 2019, Irish Film Institute will reveal a new look in our main cinema spaces. Cinema 1 and 2 will be fully renovated with new, bigger seats, new carpets, new drapes, and improvements to acoustic panelling. This will provide a better quality arts experience for audiences in more comfortable cinemas, with better quality seating, more leg room and better sound.
The refurbishment of our very unusual 18th century building is a big undertaking and whilst we have been very fortunate in receiving grants towards financing the project, your support will go towards completing the cost of the renovations.
As a charity, it also means that we can continue to channel our revenues into our not for profit activities, continuing our extensive education programmes across the country and ensuring the preservation of our moving image heritage through the work of the IFI Irish Film Archive.
American donors can also support the work of IFI and avail of their tax benefits at home in the US. You can see more on that below.

Donations from the US
American donors can support the IFI in two ways and still avail of their tax benefits.
You can choose to join us as an American Friend of the IFI here.
Alternatively, you can make a donation online via the American Friends of the Arts in Ireland via their website here. Please choose ‘Film Preservation & Education’ to ensure that your donation is directed to the IFI.
We value every donation, and we are committed to the highest levels of transparency in how we spend state and private contributions. The IFI has adopted the Statement of Guiding Principles on Fundraising, available here.
Donations of €250 or more may enable you to reclaim the tax back on your donation to the IFI; critically, the IFI will also benefit from the tax relief, adding a significant 31% to your donation. For example, with a donation of €250, the IFI will receive €327.50. The law governing tax on donations changed in January 2013. Donations of above €250 are grossed up at the specified rate (currently 31%) and the eligible charity is deemed for the purposes of the relief to have received the grossed up amount net of tax deducted at the specified rate. This applies for both PAYE and those who are Self Assessed. Please visit www.revenue.ie for further information or contact the IFI Development Office. Please do get in touch if you have any questions by contacting Jessica Hilliard, Head of Development and Fundraising, email@example.com or 016129478
